String Auditions
String auditions for the 2010 Senior Regional Orchestra will be held at Potomac High School on September 25, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Students may be asked to perform all major and (melodic) minor scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats in three octaves (two octaves for bass). Scales should be played in groups of two slurred and two martele ascending and groups of four slurred descending. Scales should be performed at a tempo of quarter note equal to 120 beats per minute. The required scales are:
C Major a Minor
G Major e Minor
D Major b Minor
A Major f# Minor
F Major d Minor
B-flat Major g Minor
E-flat Major c Minor

There are multiple performances of “An Outdoor Overture” available on YouTube to help you in your preparation. We are currently unable to post a recording of the work on this website.
There will also be a sight reading component to the audition.
Wind and Percussion Auditions
Wind and percussion auditions for the 2010 Regional Orchestra will be held at Potomac High School on September 22, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
The audition etude will be the same etude used for 2010 Virginia All State Auditions during the 2009-2010 school year. Scale auditions will follow the same guidelines as District Band. For more information, please see the VBODA website. NOTE: Look under “Archives.”
There will also be a sight reading component to the audition.
